Misguided benevolence?
My brain woke me up this morning and was like: I wonder if there could still be a happy ending here. (Or am I Daniel-Keene-naïve? LOL)
Firstly, IMHO if there is one thing episode 2 seems to have told us, the Algorithm, (whether it's AI, a person, people, or even aliens as some have suggested) is clearly trying to keep them alive. It said there was >!"352 years of data"!< so someone or something is trying to figure out an end point. And the graph that The Algorithm shows Camille >!about Juliette keeping the Silo calm has what looks like data points!< - clearly the goal throughout the series is to keep order and it tracks how that works.
Secondly, the Algorithm spoke about >!a "complete reset"!< of six silos. I assume that means they didn't kill them and get new people somehow, but wiped their memories clean to keep them in order.
Then there's an interview in which one of the folks from the show (maybe it was Graham Yost - I'm trying to find it!) says something to the effect of >!'as misguided as some people are, they are still doing everything they do because they believe it's right.'!< So are they trying to help humanity with a draconian 350-year data-collection experiment?
So that leads me to my ultimate question: is the timer in the trailer negative or positive? Is it countdown until failure and wiping them out, or countdown to 'ok we've tried, time to let them out?' I kind of think it might depend on whether there are other humans alive on the planet somewhere. If there are, it/they could exterminate them. But if there aren't human's alive somewhere, it/they might let them out when the countdown expires, using whatever was learned?
(The most interesting thing to me was Yost saying in an video interview that we think we learn in Season 3 what's going on. But he says that then Season 4 completely upends that and it's not at all what we think....)
