How do you pick your denture teeth?

Question (pre-denture)

I (33M) have basically been having my teeth slowly deteriorating and crumbling for almost a decade. I dont remember what my teeth really looked like before, and I dont really have many "pre-damage" pics bc I always hated my teeth. I have an appt on monday with a denturist and wondering if anyone's had a similar experience.

Im kind of worried of getting something wrong and not recognizing myself, or having them not suit me. Is there a process or something I should go through? Should I find reference photos of what I like or trust their judgment type thing?

Also, with my teeth being kind messed up for so long I've had to adjust how I chew, how my jaw sits resting, etc. So will getting dentures hurt more? Im also worried that if they take imprints that they'll be crooked if that makes sense.

My mind has been racing and my anxiety has been spiking worrying about all these things since its such a large amount of money to drop, and if I get it wrong idk when id be able to afford to "try again".
