Meta’s New AI Chip vs NVIDIA — Is this the beginning of a shift?
Meta is ramping up its MTIA/Iris AI chips to reduce dependence on NVIDIA for inference workloads.
From what I’ve read:
MTIA focuses on inference and recommendation systems.
NVIDIA still dominates large-scale model training.
Meta is still buying massive numbers of NVIDIA GPUs while investing heavily in custom silicon.
Do you think hyperscalers will eventually rely mostly on their own chips, or will NVIDIA remain the default platform for frontier AI?
Interested to hear everyone’s take.
