Comments re Terramow X AWD Q&A on Kickstarters
You can't ask a question on Kickstarter if you haven't pledged yet, so no questions for prospective pledgers.
Things I have noticed that make me wary. Narrative below in quotes are those from Creator on the Q&A:
- "For live camera function, a Wi-Fi connection is required. Since live camera transmission requires a large amount of data, we currently recommend using Wi-Fi for the best experience.
To protect user privacy and security, the live camera function is currently designed for real-time viewing only and does not support downloading, transferring, or exporting video data.
For remote control function, TerraMow X supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. Bluetooth provides a more direct connection and offers more precise control in close-range operation."
I guess that means no vision or remote control using 4G. My Wi-Fi does not extend to the whole yard, so The remote control is pretty much useless for me.
- "RTK is required when mapping larger areas (over approximately 2,000 m²) or when mowing at night.
NRTK service is currently being discussed with service providers, and we will share more details once the plan is finalized.
If you are not using an NRTK service, the included physical RTK base station will still be required to provide high-precision positioning for mapping and mowing operations.
Modifying or adding add-ons will not affect your Backer Number. Your Backer Number is assigned based on when your initial pledge was submitted and remains the same regardless of any later changes"
My current automower flakes out using RTK at the far reaches; that is the reason I want nRTK. The limitation on mapping area without RTK is a deal breaker for me.
- "Thank you for the great question!
For the Essential bundle, 1.5 acres means the supported map area for that configuration.
If you need more later, you can add 2 extended batteries to support up to 2.7 acres / 11,000 m².
Zones work within one complete map. You can divide that map into different zones and manage them separately. One map supports up to 250 zones."
"@Robert casperson Multi-map support is part of our development direction, and we’ll share more details."
This is a good clarification.
- "Yes, that’s correct.
The mower itself is planned to start shipping from September 2026. The expansion batteries are planned to start shipping from November 2026, so if you pledged the Max Coverage bundle, the mower and extra batteries may ship separately.
Once the expansion batteries arrive, you’ll be able to use them for the larger coverage setup."
I take this to mean that you won't be able to use the mower for more that 1.5 acres until you receive the November expansion battereis. For me, that means not useable umtil Spring of 2027. This is a deal breaker for me as far as kickstarter pledge. Maybe in 2027 at the higher price.
- "Yes. One RTK base station can support multiple TerraMow X AWD mowers at the same time.
If our stretch goal is unlocked, all backers will receive 1 year of free cellular service.
After the free data package is used up, you can purchase additional data package through our official website: https://www.terramow.com/products/1g-cellular-traffic if needed. The pricing is $19 for a 1GB / 1-year data package."
Didn't realize that there was a cap on the data package of 1GB beginning with the second year. Have no idea how much data is used in a year.
- "Yes, TerraMow X supports nighttime mowing. To mow at night, RTK positioning is required to ensure accurate navigation and reliable operation in low-light environments."
I take this to mean that if you are not using RDK, but nRDK, then you can't mow at night.
