Guys vs gals

I plan to start planning to girlmode in public soon. One thing I've noticed just talking to people on reddit as a girl, is a lot more people message me. I'm a lesbian and have no interest in men for whatever reason. I know men are more likely to hit on me, but I've noticed women are also very forward.

How do I actually know when I need to be wary of someone (safety reasons), when it's just a compliment, and when they're hitting on me? I know gals and guys are different hence the title, but I plan to go to queer spaces to pick up girls, and it's generally safer there, but bad people exist in all forms.
