Legendary phoenix

Trying to get this damn thing but IDK what I'm doing wrong. I've been shooting it with charged shot and explosive arrows - I hit it but it just disappears - it doesn't fall out of the sky or anything. Then I fly around for a bit, find it again and shoot it - and as soon as my arrow connects it disappears.

I've done this like 10 times, the thing won't fall out of the sky
