Thoughts on this career move?

General Career Questions

Hi everyone. I’d appreciate insights from lawyers who have transitioned from private practice to an in-house role.

I’m a lawyer with close to two decades of experience, primarily in law firm practice, and I’m currently exploring an opportunity to move in-house as Corporate Counsel.

I’m trying to understand what would be considered a fair monthly gross compensation and overall package for someone with my level of experience. The role appears to cover general corporate work, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, governance, and providing legal support to management.

For those who have made a similar move:

What compensation range did you negotiate or encounter?

What benefits should I pay close attention to aside from the base salary (e.g., performance bonus, car plan, allowances, HMO, retirement plan, equity, etc.)?

Does the energy sector generally pay better than other industries for in-house legal roles?

Any insights from lawyers who have gone from private practice to in-house, particularly in regulated industries or publicly listed companies, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
