I didn’t drink yesterday.
Attended a funeral in the morning where alcoholism was a contributing factor to the death. Priest mentioned AA during one of his speeches, explaining that he himself had struggles in his life and is an active member. Mentioned that the deceased had a copy of the “Big Book”, and even read out a passage they had highlighted at the family’s request.
The service ends, and as we exit the building many people have already gone to their vehicles to grab a beer. Hardly an empty hand in the parking lot. Other substances were obviously being used as well.
Just an observation, trying not to be judgemental as really wanted a drink myself at lunch afterward (but didn’t!). I understand people are hurting, and trying to numb and postpone their grief in the only way they’re accustomed to.
Anyhow, thanks for listening. Glad I’m not hungover this morning.
