Why do players consistently play so wrecklessly when you're the one paying Tokens for Escalation missions?

It's driving me crazy. Losing crazy amount of credits by solo-Rambo players running out of cover and getting obliterated in seconds.

What is everyone else doing to not haemorrhage their tokens like this?
