How safe is upgrading to the latest experimental right now?

In my first space age run I just landed on Aquilo for the first time and I realised that you need to import a lot of materials to this planet (or so I think up until now.). So now I am wondering if I should upgrade that save to the latest experimental to make use of the new cargo unloading bays because this would be the first really great opportunity for me to use them since it seems like I will need a lot of trains on Aquilo anyways. So is this something I could/should do right niw or do I really need to start a new playthrough on the stable release when it arrives to make use of this feature?
