Partners Who Say The Wrong Things

i’m a young adult woman who has struggled with this stuff for well over a decade so i have a lot of stories.

a few years ago, i dated this guy. he was not the best boyfriend for reasons that i can’t count on one hand, but this was around the time i was at my highest weight, which i’d say is on the lowest side of healthy, maybe even slightly under still. i was not in recovery, i had just gone through a period of extreme and uncontrollable hunger after having been sick for so long. it almost felt like i was discovering food for the first time. i was talking one night about how i still have body dysmorphia and this guy tries to reassure me by going “i mean, obviously you’re not as skinny as i am, but you’re fine.”

i’ve had a lot of other experiences. i don’t even want to talk about some of them, so i want to ask if any of you guys have any stories about partners who said things that just didn’t help and were also very clearly the wrong things to say.
