I know many people have joined the bandwagon of global investing. Being fair to them, the depreciating rupee and inflation in India are valid reasons why investors look beyond domestic markets. The question to ask though is Does buying international stocks actually make your portfolio safer, or are we just repeating advice without understanding when it applies? Because at the end of the day it is a market and bound to rise and fall. The only incentive is Dollar against Rupee.

If one is thinking of investing in AI stocks, just because everyone else is doing, then sorry my friend global investing is not for you, you better run losses in rupees than dollars. Global Investing is majorly about reducing country-specific risk, plain and simple.

Since, getting international exposure has become much easier through international mutual funds, ETFs, or platforms that offer global investing alongside Indian equities with brokers like HDFC SKY partnering up with vested and started integrating multiple investment options into one app, which probably explains why global investing has become a much more common conversation than it was a few years ago.

Remember, If you're investing for the long term and already have a well-diversified Indian portfolio, international exposure can add another layer of diversification. But if your portfolio is still concentrated in a handful of Indian stocks, buying a few US tech companies doesn't automatically make you diversified.

Global investing should complement Indian Investing.
