3 years in operations → Analytics. Roast my profile. What would you improve?
Hi everyone,
I'm transitioning from operations to Business/Data Analytics after 3+ years in admissions operations. Over the past few months I've been building projects to bridge the gap rather than just applying.
Current stack:
- SQL (CTEs, joins, aggregations)
- PostgreSQL
- Advanced Excel (Power Query, Pivot Tables)
- Metabase
- Dashboarding & KPI reporting
- Data cleaning and transformation
Projects:
• Retail banking campaign analysis (41k+ records): customer segmentation, conversion analysis, dashboards, business recommendations.
• Blinkit sales dashboard: $1.2M+ sales analysis, KPI tracking, regional and product performance.
Background:
- B.Tech Biotechnology (CGPA 8.87)
- Experience managing high-volume operational data, reporting, CRM records, and process tracking.
The challenge is that recruiters often see my previous job titles (Senior Counselor/Advisor) before they see the analytics work.
If you were hiring for a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, or Research Analyst role, what would make you reject or shortlist this profile? I'm looking for honest feedback.
