Bilingual people who went no contact, do you remember your second language?
I went no contact with my Nmom and the only thing i’m sad about is that i no longer have anyone to practice my chinese with daily (even though “practicing” meant screaming and crying). I used to live in a chinatown growing up, but I moved and live in a pretty white neighborhood with not much chinese people or chinese in general. I’m a little sad and worried about if I’ll lose my language abilities.
I’m also sad that I associate anything Chinese or with chinese american culture with my abusive mom, even though I have much pride in being asian american.
Has anyone been through something similar and can you still speak your second language? could someone comfort me and tell me my brain won’t get rusty? i’ve been speaking it since i was a kid and im functionally fluent.
