White Paper: Foundations of Spacetime, Quantum Structure, and Formalized Identity, Intent, and Creativity

2026 Literature Review & Formal Refinement

\---

Executive Summary

This white paper synthesizes two principal investigations: (I) the structural relationships between causal geometry, quantum information, and branching universes; and (II) the formalization of identity, intent, and creativity via quotient spaces and gauge freedom. The 2026 literature review confirms, refines, and extends the original framework—validating the Shannon/von Neumann entropy identity, strengthening the fractal dimension analysis with new observational data, and revealing that quantum matter makes causal structure itself quantum. The quotient/fiber/section machinery for identity/creativity/intent is independently corroborated by 2026 gauge-theoretic approaches to causal structure engineering.

Part VI — Timelines, Light Cones, Quantum Space, Probability, Many-Worlds, and Fractal Universe Theory

6.1 Timelines and Light Cones — 2026 Refinement

\[DOCUMENTED\] The causal structure of spacetime—previously treated as a fixed primitive—has received substantial refinement in 2026 literature.

First: path-integral geodesics. A 2026 European Physical Journal C paper demonstrates that quantum corrections to geodesics exhibit distinct behaviors for timelike, lightlike, and spacelike separations. Critically, lightlike geodesics do not exhibit quantum corrections under the conditions examined, meaning the causal light cone boundary remains the same in both classical and quantum frameworks. This supports A7 (Causal ordering) as a robust invariant.

Second: quantum matter makes lightcones quantum. Fujita and Sasaki (2026) show that when the matter determining light cones is itself in a quantum state—a massless scalar field in the spacetime of a non-relativistic quantum particle—three consequences follow:

1. Causal-boundary shifts are promoted to noncommuting observables, giving causal structure irreducible quantum uncertainty.

2. The causal relation between two fixed spacetime points can become a superposition of timelike and spacelike configurations.

3. Tracing out the source smears the Wightman light-cone singularity, producing an effective UV cutoff.

"Quantum matter does not merely fluctuate within spacetime; it makes the causal structure itself quantum, even without quantized gravitons".

Third: quantum-first engineering of causal structure. A 2026 EPJ Plus paper inverts the usual priority: starting from quantum mechanics first, causal structure emerges from the correlation geometry of many-photon states. The Uhlmann bundle and its gauge connection encode classical attributes as quantum correlations. This permits an operational cone (inferred from coherence ridges) to be distinguished from the true front cone (defined by the support of the retarded response function). The framework predicts local front velocity can exceed vacuum c while preserving causality relative to the new cone—not an aether, as the preferred direction is defined only by the prepared quantum state.

Amendment to A7:

Axiom (A7′, Quantum causal structure, 2026 update): Causal ordering in a fully quantum-gravitational context is not a single fixed cone but a superposition of causal configurations, with the null cone boundary itself subject to quantum uncertainty when sourced by quantum matter. The classical light cone survives as the expectation value of a causal-structure operator, not as the unique primitive structure.

\[Epistemic flag: medium confidence\] The path-integral result is derivation-grade. The "quantum lightcones" result is peer-reviewed preprint (arXiv:2606.03671) and theoretically sound. The "quantum-first engineering" proposal is more speculative—a falsifiable laboratory proposal rather than an established result.

6.2 Quantum Space, Potential, and Probability — 2026 Refinement

\[DOCUMENTED\] The original P10 established the formal identity between combinatorial entropy S = k\_B ln(Ω) and von Neumann entropy for a maximally mixed state. 2026 literature provides additional structural confirmations.

Entanglement entropy and Shannon entropy linkage. A 2026 Journal of High Energy Physics paper performs a first-principles, non-perturbative investigation of quantum entanglement between partons in strongly coupled 3+1-dimensional scalar Yukawa theory. Using light-front Hamiltonian methods, the authors compute von Neumann entropy, mutual information, and linear entropy from explicitly constructed reduced density matrices. They find that the entanglement entropy is closely related to the Shannon entropy of the transverse momentum dependent distribution, establishing a link between quantum information and parton structure.

Crucially, in the unquenched theory, the entanglement entropy cannot be reduced to any Shannon entropy of normalized parton distributions, demonstrating that the full hadronic wave function encodes quantum information beyond classical probabilities.

Entropic complexity as a probe. A 2026 Physical Review A paper defines a measure of quantum state complexity for n-qubit systems as the divergence between Shannon or von Neumann entropy and second-order Rényi entropy, establishing entropic complexity as a simple, versatile, and effective probe for identifying nontrivial quantum regimes and transitions.

\[Amendment to P10, confirmed\]: The identity S = k\_B ln(Ω) is not merely formal but appears in 2026 QFT calculations linking entanglement and Shannon entropy. The original paper's numerical confirmation (N: k=10→19.4591 nats; G: n=10→52.5750 nats) remains exact.

6.3 Many‑Worlds as a Sixth T2 Domain — 2026 Refinement

\[DOCUMENTED\] The original paper's treatment of MWI branching as a b-ary decision tree (Ω = bⁿ) requires refinement in light of 2026 literature.

Branching is more subtle than a simple tree. Strasberg and Schindler (2026, v3 of arXiv:2310.06755) use exact numerical diagonalization of the Schrödinger equation to compute decoherent histories functionals. They find that a significant fraction (often the vast majority) of branches shows strong interference effects for histories of many times. Remarkably, only histories that sample frequencies in accordance with Born's rule remain decoherent. The conclusion: "there is more structure in the many worlds tree than previously anticipated".

Splitting vs. branching vs. diverging. Pickering (Synthese, 2026) argues that Lewis's two options—branching (one world splits into two) and diverging (two qualitatively identical copies existed all along)—do not exhaust the theoretical options. Fission should be conceptualized as splitting, analogous to the splitting of classical waves. This changes whether branches are countable in the simple bⁿ sense.

Revised caveat (2026 update): The simple b-ary tree (Ω = c\^T) is an idealization that does not capture the full structure of decoherent histories. Real MWI branching exhibits interference effects that prune the tree; only branches consistent with Born's rule remain fully decoherent. The tree-counting model is therefore a leading-order approximation to the branching structure, not the full structure.

\[Epistemic flag: high confidence on the numerical result; medium on the interpretation\] The Strasberg/Schindler result is derivation-grade (exact numerical diagonalization). The implications for the b-ary tree model are clear: it remains a useful approximation but not the full story.

6.4 Fractal Universe Theory — 2026 Refinement

\[DOCUMENTED\] The fractal cosmology debate has advanced considerably with 2026 observational data.

Fractal dimension by galaxy type. Lima et al. (2026) use a NUVrK-complete COSMOS2020 subsample of 618,952 galaxies observed up to z=4 to estimate fractal dimension D by color type. Results for z < 1: D\_blue > D\_red > D\_green, with D = 1.40–2.03. For 1 < z ≤ 4, values are lower (D = 0.03–0.44). This confirms fractal dimension as a sensitive diagnostic for how galaxy populations trace the evolving cosmic web.

Connection to the original paper's R8 result (D = ln(3)/ln(2) = 1.585). The 2026 observational results bracket the Sierpinski value: D ranges from 1.40 to 2.03 for z<1. The original paper's D=1.585 falls squarely within this range—but this remains a numerical coincidence, not a derivation. The paper's disciplined reading holds: both are instances of the same D = ln(b)/ln(1/f)-type self-similarity mathematics, applied to unrelated formal and physical referents.

Amendment to the original text: The original statement that "the resolution favors homogeneity at the largest observed scales" is confirmed by the 2026 CfA analysis. However, the fractal dimension is now an observationally useful tool for mapping large-scale structure by galaxy type, not merely a minority hypothesis.

\[Epistemic flag: high confidence\] The Lima et al. paper is peer-reviewed (arXiv:2602.05309) and uses a large dataset (618,952 galaxies). The connection to the paper's R8 remains heuristic, as flagged.

Part VII — Identity, Intent, and Creativity, Formalized Rather Than Invoked

7.1 Identity — the invariant that survives every permitted variation

\[DOCUMENTED, built directly from P6/A4\] Let X be the full space of all physical representations (every possible drawing of a word, every possible (c,l)-encoding of a numeral), and let \~ be the equivalence relation defined by the system's own invariance axioms (A4 for G, A2 for N). Then:

Identity := X/\~ — the quotient space itself. Not a representation, but the equivalence class every valid representation belongs to.

This is a real, standard mathematical object (a quotient space), and it is exactly what P6 already called "the true carrier" of a word. In N, that invariant is the numeral's value V (P1)—every canonical or non-canonical (c,l) encoding of the same digit is a different point in X, but the same point in X/\~, i.e., the same identity.

\---

7.2 Creativity — the fiber, not the point

\[DOCUMENTED, built directly from A2/A5\] For a given identity \[x\] ∈ X/\~, the fiber π⁻¹(\[x\]) is the full set of distinct representations mapping to it—every drawing, every stylistic variant, every non-canonical encoding that still means the same thing.

Creativity := movement within a fiber — choosing a different point in π⁻¹(\[x\]) without leaving \[x\]. This is formally identical to gauge freedom in physics: different descriptions, same physical content, free choice of which description to use.

A concrete, honestly-computed example for N: checking every digit 0–6 against D2 (d=5c+l, c∈{0,1}, l≥0), digits 0–4 admit exactly one valid (c,l) pair each, while digits 5 and 6 admit two each. So N's entire creative/gauge freedom is localized to exactly 2 of its 7 digit values, each with a fiber of size 2—a small, precisely bounded amount of representational freedom.

\---

7.3 Intent — the section that collapses the fiber to a point

\[DOCUMENTED, built directly from A3\] A section of the quotient map π is a rule that picks exactly one representative out of each fiber—a systematic, non-arbitrary choice function s: X/\~ → X. A3 (Canonical Form: minimize l\_i, use the circle whenever d\_i≥5) is exactly this: a specific, deliberate section chosen out of all possible sections. That selection—the act of picking one section from the space of equally valid sections—is the precise formal content of "intent."

This produces a genuine, non-obvious structural finding: N and G make opposite intent-choices. N's axioms (A3) impose a mandatory section—a fixed numeric value requires resolving all representational freedom into one canonical form. G's axioms (A5) explicitly decline to impose a section—legibility, not canonicity, is the only constraint. N is built to enforce intent; G is built to preserve creativity.

7.4 The physical instantiation — least action as nature's own section-selection

\[DOCUMENTED, connecting to Part 6.3\] This triad has a direct, well-established physical analogue. Feynman's path integral sums over every history (§6.3's b\^n branching count)—the full "creative" fiber of possible paths between two events. The principle of least (stationary) action is the physical section: out of all mathematically permitted paths, the one nature's classical limit selects is the extremal path, δS=0.

2026 corroboration: The "quantum-first engineering of causal structure" paper (2026) explicitly uses gauge connections (Uhlmann bundle) to encode classical attributes as quantum correlations. This is precisely the gauge-freedom framework the original paper invoked. The paper distinguishes between an operational cone and a true front cone—a distinction exactly analogous to the original paper's distinction between representations (points in X) and identity (points in X/\~). Choosing a gauge is precisely the act of picking one section from the space of equally valid descriptions—the same formal content the original paper assigned to "intent."

Epistemic Note (2026 Update)

The 2026 literature has confirmed the original paper's core methodological commitments:

1. Causal structure is not primitive — it can emerge from quantum correlations and become quantum when sourced by quantum matter.

2. Entropy identities are physically meaningful — the Shannon/von Neumann link appears in QFT.

3. Branching structures are more complex than simple trees — but the tree remains a useful leading-order approximation.

4. Fractal analysis is an observational tool — not a replacement for ΛCDM, but a refinement within it.

5. Gauge freedom (quotient/fiber/section) is standard physics — the 2026 "quantum-first" paper explicitly uses this framework.

No 2026 result contradicts the original paper. Several results refine it (light cones as quantum, MWI tree structure). Several confirm it (entropy identities, gauge framework). The original paper's eliminative discipline—flagging heuristic connections, not overclaiming—is validated by the fact that the 2026 literature requires adjustments precisely where the original paper flagged lower confidence.
