AIO for leaving after my friend showed up late to our hangout again?
I (26F) and my friend (25F) made plans earlier this week to meet at a bar for 5:30 PM. We don’t get to hang out often cos of work and other engagements, so I was actually looking forward to it. I even showed up early, around 5:15 or there about, then I texted her to inform her.
She told me to go ahead and secure seats inside, which I did. I picked out a table, ordered a drink, and settled in to wait while scrolling through my socials.
Time kept passing and I didn’t want to call or text cos I assumed she was already on her way, maybe she was stuck in traffic or maybe parking issues. But by 6:15 PM which was almost an hour past the time we planned for, I had to call her and she was still at home, that she’s almost done getting ready.
I was honestly furious, cos tell me why she’d ask me to go inside and secure a table when she knows she hasn’t even left the house? It felt inconsiderate and like she expected me to just sit there waiting.
Funny enough, this isn’t the first time she did this. She has a habit of being late, but this was the most annoying of all. I felt a bit embarrassed sitting there alone for that long and highly disrespected by the whole situation. That’s poor planing and lack of efforts.
She called and her excuse was that she wasn’t keeping track of time that she’s leaving the house as we speak, she won’t be long, tbh this made me even more irritated because it felt like such a flimsy excuse. We had solid plans, why won’t you be cautious of the time?
So I told her to forget the hangout, I was tired and I was leaving to go run my errands and that we could reschedule for another day when she could actually commit to showing up. Then I hung up, didn’t answer her calls or texts afterwards cos I was pissed.
Later on, she apologized but it didn’t seem genuine to me, it was so nonchalant. But since then she has been acting weird and distant towards me. Now I’m left wondering if I overreacted or hurt her feelings, cos I could’ve been more patient or if she’s just upset because she knows she messed up.
Did i overreact?
