I saw my koi fish that i have bought over 2 years ago spawning about a week or two ago, for the first time. I reached into the pond to try and retrieve some of the eggs from plant leaves and whatnot, i could only get to a handful of them but i put them in a little plastic tub to keep them safe. After some time i noticed all the eggs looked empty/unfertilized so i removed the aerator i put in the tub and just let it sit thinking there was nothing.

Then yesterday i was about to throw out the water in the tub, and i saw a little fry swimming! One single fry apparently managed to hatch & survive and grew quite large already (more than i would have expected anyway). I was about to put him in an aquarium but i noticed his digestive tract was full of food so he got plenty of it in the tub (i guess all the little worms/bugs in there among the detritus is a buffet for him) so i let him stay in the tub to keep growing fast from the seemingly nutritious diet. I added back the aerator and a plant, ill just change out some of the water everyday to keep it clean.

Ive always wanted to breed koi fry and this singular fish is so far the one and only offspring i have got lol. I havent noticed any live fry in the pond, all of them may well have gotten eaten already, so i really hope this one will survive, i dont even care if it loses all its color later

The first ever koi fry that i have managed to hatch!
