Workwave's RealGreen Service Assistant 5 Software. Stay Away!!!
Why WorkWave’s RealGreen Service Assistant 5 is "Business Suicide" for Small Operators
I’ve been running my lawn care business since 2004. For over two decades, I grew my database to over 5,000 clients, keeping detailed notes on every single property. I transitioned smoothly from pen-and-paper to Insight Direct’s ServiceCEO in 2009, and then to WorkWave Service in 2018.
But in March 2025, WorkWave discontinued their legacy software and forced me onto their newly acquired RealGreen-branded Service Assistant 5. They promised a smooth transition. Instead, it nearly destroyed my business, and I'm still dealing with the fallout here in 2026.
If you are a small business owner or a solo operator, stay far away from this software. Here is exactly why:
1. Data Integrity is a Nightmare
We were forced to upload our 5,000+ customer database three separate times due to critical system failures. Every single time it failed, we completely lost any updates, schedules, or notes we had input since the last upload. Twenty years of meticulously built data was treated like garbage.
2. Extreme "Click-Depth" and Siloed Design
RealGreen SA5 seems to be built exclusively for massive corporations with completely separate departments. The software is built in independent silos that do not talk to each other automatically.
- For a small business where you handle sales, scheduling, routing, and billing yourself, the number of manual steps and clicks required just to log a single job or payment is staggering.
- It is incredibly inefficient and takes a prohibitive amount of time out of your day.
3. $11K Implementation Fee for a Broken System
I paid nearly $11,000 in implementation fees, yet the system never functioned correctly. For two straight months, my business suffered a severe operational blackout. I couldn't efficiently contact clients, lost my automated review-generation tools (eroding my online credibility), and was literally forced to run my daily routes off old paper printouts and go door-to-door just to survive.
4. Zero Support for Small Businesses
We spent countless hours on the phone—sometimes straight from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM—utilizing screen-sharing with their technicians. We called so often we got to know the support staff by their first names. Despite going through three separate account managers and explicitly warning them that the software was failing my business, nothing was permanently fixed.
The Verdict: In my opinion, they Abandoned the Small Business Owner
The inefficiencies of Service Assistant 5 resulted in massive lost revenue and eroded client relationships I spent decades cultivating. Even now in 2026, I am still actively working to clean up the mess left behind and rebuild those broken bridges.
Unless you have a massive budget and full-time, dedicated office staff split into separate corporate departments, do not buy this software. For a small business or solo operator, signing up for WorkWave’s RealGreen SA5 is operational suicide.
There are plenty of modern, nimble software alternatives out there optimized for local lawn care and landscape businesses. Look elsewhere—In my opinion, WorkWave has completely abandoned the small business user.
