IPad stuck on Update Screen after using PC

Hello, I don't know much about technology, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. My IPad was stuck on an older update version since I didn't have the storage to update it. Today I learned you could connect it to your PC to update, so I did that and it went smoothly at first. Update got downloaded and verified or something, backup seemed to be done. When my IPad showed the screen with the Apple logo and a progress bar beneath, my PC disconnected and said there was an error. Progress bar isn't moving past the half-way point and i already put it in recovery mode and tried to update it again, same issue. The backup seemed to have failed, despite being shown as done, since I can't find it in my PC files. There are pictures of my late mother on that device, so I really don't want to have to factory reset it. Is there a way for me to just not update it and use it as normal again, or maybe finish the update somehow?
