More Free Warhammer Community Resources/Tools: Poorhammer 11th Edition Horde Mode, Combat Patrol Preservation, and more!
I like to save interesting posts about free community resources and tools from other Warhammer and miniature gaming communities. Once I've collected a few, I like to share them with all of you in case you missed them.
Poorhammer 11th Edition Horde Mode
For those who don't tune in the Poorhammer podcast they updated their previously created cooperative Warhammer 40K variant that allows you to play with friends against waves of AI enemies.
A few days ago they updated the rules for 11th Edition. I only played it once during 10th Edition, but it was a lot of fun (and that's coming from someone who usually dislikes co-op board games). If you're interested, they recorded an entire episode about it: Poorhammer Horde Mode.
The game mode is completely free, and for a project made by non-professional game designers I think its strong mechanically. Having another way to play 40K that doesn't require buying a $70 rulebook is freaking awesome.
Some hero 2 days ago in r/Warhammer40K already made some resources for the game mode on TableTop simulator, which is pretty cool. Shoutout to BlackBioSpark for the work in providing that.
Combat Patrol Preservation
r/CombatPatrol40k is doing their best to preserve the Combat Patrol rules as Games Workshop appears to be removing them from its official websites. They created a Google Drive (Thread Link Here: Combat Patrol Google Drive) to keep all the rules in a free accessible place.
I'm not the biggest fan of the Combat Patrol game mode myself, but I think preserving these rules for the community is admirable.
Free Brush Cleaning Pad 3D Printing File
This is very niche, but I thought it was kind of cool. Its designed by user Rafiki2611 (link: Brush Cleaning Pad). Essentially he designed a 3D printable tool that can turn any container into water pot for cleaning brushes.
As someone who uses Red Solo Cups or old plastic cups for water pots this seems pretty useful. Again super niche, but as a free file to print at home it could be useful for those who travel and paint.
List Forge Update/Review
A commenter recently recommended that I try the 40K army builder app List Forge. After a few games, I have to say I'm very impressed. List Forge is fully updated for 11th edition and the features they offer are incredible.
Full Stratagems, Rules References, Game Tracking, etc. this gives you 90% of the features of the official 40K app for free. I still continue to use New Recruit as my main list building app because I prefer the UI and app feel. List Forge's UI is a bit clunky for me taking me longer to move through units while playing and building my army.
However, I will start splitting my time between both apps as List Forge's updates have been super interesting and my issues with the UI are probably just a personal issue. Their last v2.3.1 update (notes here: List Forge Update) is pretty ambitious, so kudos to them for continuing to improve their app.
Thanks for listening to my random ramblings! I'll probably be back later today or tomorrow with some juicy 40K deals.
Have a great weekend everyone!
