Can someone please explain the hype around this game?

Full disclosure: I never played this game until today, which for better or worse means I have no rose-tinted glasses or nostalgia tied to it.

I'm about 4 hours in and so far i've been less than interested in the game. It feels hollow, empty, and quite boring. I've run from quest marker to quest market with nothing interesting happening in between, and done a few really easy dungeons that had subpar loot and nothing engaging in them.

I'm a big fan of Skyrim with hundreds of hours in the vanilla version alone, and am familiar with these types of games but i'm just not getting the hype at all - it looks great, sure, but that's all it really has going for it.

This isn't a hate post, i'm just looking to see what the fuss is about from the perspective of the fans? For the price tag, i'd rather buy KCD1 & 2, and another copy of Skyrim.
