Art and overhead string lights on Elm St

Recommendation

When Elm Street becomes pedestrian only, is there a plan to quickly make it feel more designed and alive?

Start with some colorful asphalt art. Maybe a street and sidewalk chalk art festival. Or a community street mural project that's paint by numbers so the community could participate. The signal box art by school kids is great and has been well promoted. Let's build on that. There are so many interior designers in the area. I'm curious what design elements could be carried through the whole area of Elm Street that will be pedestrian only. And let's celebrate local artists and give them visible work downtown. Maybe let the cultural center artwork spill out on Elm Street since it's already organized and nearby.

And overhead string lighting is simple and has a quick impact of making the space feel more expansive by making people look up but also more comfortable by enclosing the space. Or even Christmas lights in the trees but I think string light is probably easier to install.

Are these elements in a plan somewhere? Are they being implemented? If not what can we do to help?

(I know there's a whole side discussion about whether the road should be closed or not and whether the area is safe. Let's save that for a different discussion.)
