18 and starting my life homeless.
My family was homeless since just before my 10th birthday. That was the first time my mom left her ex to run away to a shelter. After that the cycle never ended. Not with my mom, at least. We haven't stayed in shelters all the time, and we have had a few apartments in between but we usually end up getting kicked out or moving away again. I graduated, I have no job, and our apartment has given me a 10 day notice to sign the lease or leave, which i will not be doing.
My mom is the only parent in the house and is extremely irresponsible with money. She is always lying to me about our living situation among other things. We do not have a good relationship to say the least and It's gonna be hard but I will be cutting her off after I leave home. Anyways it seems like thats gonna be sooner than I thought, I'm still in shock a bit and I'm sad that I'll have to leave the family dog as she is so sweet and I will probably have to call her in for animal neglect at some point soon.
Life is just sad right now but Im still kind of processing it, it's hard when I'm still at my mom's but i want to enjoy the days i have before i have to really worry about everything. I have no friends right now, but I do have some acquaintances and a really amazing boyfriend who has been incredibly supportive and really came into my life right when I needed it.
Ive got some homeless resources but the social worker i was given is literally the same dude my mom talks to and he does NOT separate our business. The shelters around here are apparently really full right now as well so I'm a bit lost right now. I might have to relocate to a bigger city and it scares me a little because it's not really safe here and id be far from my bf if anything happened, and I'm kind of a little person. I can at least defend myself with a knife and pepper spray if necessary which i have.
But yeah basically I spent my 10th birthday in a shelter and I very well could be spending my 19th in one. Im pretty used to shelters, just want the cycle to end with me. If you read to the end thank you sm 💜
