Immigrants moving to Philippines

Why do old white people specifically call themselves expats in Asian countries? Why not immigrants like everyone else? I have never heard a Filipino or another immigrant calling themselves expats when in a foreign country; both parties moved to another country for a better life. Can someone explain? Cause here in USA we call Mexican immigrants but they should be called expats! I missed the update
