Children’s book: Canadian lost child yellow feather creature

Trying to figure out the name of this children’s book - would have read it in the early 2000s in Canada; it may have had a Canadian Indigenous folklore element. it was paperback picture book - I remember landscape imagery, like plains or Canadian Shield-style rocks or arctic (but I don’t think it was a winter scene).

The plot is a child (girl?) either wanders away or gets lost in this remote location. She comes upon this little creature (he may have lured her?) - he looks like a small humanoid made of yellow straw or feathers. He had rosy cheeks and a little smile. Not scary, very creepy. The kid eventually finds her way home (by following inukshuks her family made?). The creature was not a good guy, and looked like an alien.

I cannot find anything online except another Reddit post seeking the same information. Please help!
