Right decision for cat w/ complete CCL tear

Hi all. My 12yr cat tore his LH CCL. Vet confirmed complete tear and offered two options;

  1. Excap repair.
  2. Conservative management (8 weeks crate rest).
    He did advise that chances of recovery without surgery for a complete tear are very low. I've read every article I can find regarding CCL tears in cats and opinions seem to be very 50/50 on if cats with a complete tear can heal without the surgery, and many studies lean towards advising against doing the surgery at all...Does anyone have any input they would be willing to share? Greatly appreciated!!
