I dunno how hot a take this is but I personally feel like if important things like conversations or downtime or training or whatnot is offscreened, that's a sign you're not a great writer.

General

I don't mean in the sense that not every little itty-bitty scene needs to be shown but if it's genuinely important things like relationship development/growth or a character's training and power-up and all that, then those are things that do kinda need to be shown ans not just brushed off into offscreen land.

Like the entire point of a manga/show or any media is for us to witness this kinda important stuff on screen and there really isn't a point to just offscreening it or putting it all in some flashback unless you didn't properly think it through and are only using said flashback and all that to remind themselves of it.

I will never get the point of Off-screening important things cause you wanna be different and I don't even mean small shit like a character eating of whatever but characters having important conversations and discussions and talks shouldn't he offscreened or characters learning major things shouldn't be Off-screened unless you wanna be "subversive" or "cool."

The first example for me is Jujutsu Kaisen with the One month Timeskip and I think it's really clear thar when Gege offscreened and skipped the entire thing ,that was more or less his excuse to give his cast whatever powerups and planning that they want and need no matter how forced or rushed it is, such as Yuji gaining his new skills and abilities.

Why he didn't gain those skills across his journey is beyond me and why Gege offscreened it and more or less showed it in flashbacks is also beyond me.

Tbh,Jujutsu Kaisen as a whole fits this cause important things like downtime and character interactions are just kinda..put in offscreen land and you have to fill it up with your interpretations of how it went and maybe it's cause Gege had a irrational fear that if he stopped,Shonen Jump would turn him and his family into Ash but all it did was make a already rushed manga even more rushed.

And..another example is The Amazing Digital Circus.

This one is especially annoying cause the series is already kinda short so you would think important things like Ragatha and Pomni's talk would be shown.

We get told that they talk in EP6..but after that, it's all offscreened and other important things like the characters interacting and bonding and fixing things with each other are offscreen + same with character developing and grown.

Like why even say that they talked and bonded and fixed things if we aren't gonna even see it?

And I know people are gonna glaze this cause "oh its so realistic and unexpected like real life" but I hate Jax abstracting off screen cause the finale was already being kinda rushed so offsfreening and rushing a important moment like this is even more lazy and just cause something is realistic doesn't make it good at all.

Hazbin Hotel is a show I wanna include with this issue but we're still on S2 and as far as we know, nothing massively important has been offscreened.

You could argue Lucifer and Charlie talking was offscreened but that's honestly it so I wanna hold my tongue on it until it's complete.

Why even include these important moments if all you're gonna do is be like "can we see these moments happen? No."
