My question is for the experienced investors

As a young investor who has just started investing, i mainly invest on what my friends say to, and when I ask them the source they'll say that someone told them or they got to know from some random reel. My question is from the experienced investor, how do I start, I mean how do I filter the stock or mutual fund that I should invest in this particular stock for long term or for short term. Please help me out.
