"It follows" is shocking đź’€
Did a "horror" movie binge that included Obses.sion, The Witch, The Lighthouse, It Follows, Barbarian, Weapons, Talk to Me, Bring Her Back, Evil Dead Rise etc Some of these are absolute gems (Like Obses.sion, Egger's movies, Bring her Back), but all of them look like masterpieces compared to It Follows.
WTF was that?
The premise is interesting, but the execution was horrendous. It easily has the worst acting I've seen since Birdemic: Shock and Terror or The Room. I don't blame the young actors who sometimes look completely lost, as actors not charachters (even the adults suckkk) it is clearly the director's fault. He seems only interested in the camerawork, which is why everything else fails. The camerawork itself just feels like a cheap knockoff of M. Night Shyamalan’s style, with that fixed camera that keeps turning slowly...
Actually, it seems he also used the movie as a pretext to film naked or scantily clad girls.
The first two minutes set the tone with that opening sequence with the panicked girl running, and her ""panicked"" father... and that ridiculous shot of her contorted corpse that makes no sense. Bad shock value for the sake of shock value.
The whole thing plays like a fan film made by talentless amateurs. Most of the horror sequences look cheesy and ridiculous AF (like the mother/son scene where the writing, the acting, and the "choreography" -especially that ridiculous jump the woman does- were pure cringe. Actually, almost every scene contains nonsense and/or very badly executed horror. And the climax pool scene is no better...
And somehow, this thing got a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and praise... Did they put drugs in the movie theaters and Blu-ray discs? Maybe the end of times is near.
