Car sales role advice

I’m 18 and have about a year’s experience buying, repairing and selling cars. I’ve just come across a Trainee Car Sales Executive job near me and it’s honestly my dream job.

The advert says full training is provided and that previous motor trade experience is preferred but not essential. I feel like I’d suit the role well. I know my way around cars, I’m good with people and I’ve already got some experience buying and selling them myself.

The only thing that’s making me hesitate is my age.
From what I’ve read online, and after speaking to one dealership, it seems like most sales executives are in their early 20s or older. They told me their youngest salesperson was around 23.

Is it actually worth applying, or am I likely to get rejected purely because I’m 18?

Has anyone here started in car sales at 18, or worked with someone who did? I’d be interested to hear how common it actually is.
