M25, extroverted, and completely alone in a new city. What actually worked for you?
I'm 25, I moved to Geneva 4 months ago for a job I chased for years. Good salary, the life I wanted, and I've never been this alone or this close to the edge
I'm an extrovert, I'm built for people, I come alive around them, I have a huge amount of love to give
I have all this to give and no one to give it to. I don't stay home by choice, I fight for connection constantly. Gym, hiking, climbing, texting my old friends, inviting them over, planning things, tracking every tiny bit of progress....
I like my coworkers but the bar and party scene isn't me, but I still show up and give it everything. My real friends are back home and I'm always the one driving hours to see them, but I can't do it every weekend, so it's once every two months, and even with them I've never fully felt like I belong
I'm on Hinge, I've been on dozens of dates, two relationships ended. It drains everything out of me and none of it becomes anything real
I give absolutely everything and nothing sticks. Nobody comes to me. I feel locked in a cage while hiking, watching groups everywhere I go
And it's gotten dark, I've had thoughts that scare me, and some days I don't have the strength to leave my apartment
If you've genuinely climbed out of something this deep, what actually worked to build real friendships, and a real relationship, from zero as an adult? I've tried everything I can think of and I'm running low on hope
