Can we please normalize not commenting on other people's bodies?
I'm so tired of backhanded compliments like, "Ang ganda mo sana, kaso payat ka." Excuse me? Maganda ako kahit payat ako.
I don't understand why people think someone's weight is open for discussion. Whether a person is skinny or fat, bakit parang laging may say ang ibang tao? "Kumain ka naman." "Ang payat mo." "Mas gaganda ka kung tumaba ka." These may sound harmless to some, but you never know what someone is going through.
Some people are trying to gain weight. Some have medical conditions. Some struggle with body image. Others simply don't owe anyone an explanation for how they look.
Also, unsolicited advice isn't always a concern. Sometimes it's just unnecessary commentary. Minsan, ang tunay na concern ay marunong rumerespeto sa mga boundaries.
If a person's weight isn't something they can change in 10 seconds, don't point it out. Hindi lahat ng nasa isip niyo kailangan niyong sabihin. Hindi rin lahat ng napansin niyo tungkol sa katawan ng ibang tao ay kailangang i-comment.
Being skinny doesn't make someone less attractive, just like being fat doesn't make someone less attractive. A compliment that comes with criticism isn't a compliment at all.
Pagod na akong gawing topic ang katawan ko sa bawat gathering, reunion, workplace, o simpleng usapan.
Let's stop making people's bodies a public discussion. A body is not public property, and a comment isn't kinder just because it was spoken softly.
