Complex Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia

Hi everyone. I’m a 39-year-old woman, 5’5”, currently around 316 lbs (down from about 345 lbs). I have PCOS, type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, obesity, and a long history of infertility. I’ve been working hard on improving my health through weight loss, healthier eating, and regular walking.

A few weeks ago, I had a hysteroscopy with D&C because of abnormal uterine bleeding. My pathology showed complex endometrial hyperplasia with prominent morular metaplasia and no definitive atypia, but my gynecologist documented my diagnosis as complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia because there were concerning features that didn’t meet all of the criteria for atypia. My doctor discussed my case with a gynecologic oncologist, started me on Megace (megestrol), and plans to repeat the D&C in 6 months. I’ve also been diagnosed with chronic endometritis and am currently taking antibiotics for that.

My husband and I had still been hoping to have a child, so this diagnosis has been emotionally overwhelming. I’m trying to understand my condition, make the best treatment decisions, and hear from others who have gone through something similar.

Has anyone been through something similar and able to share any side effects you have had with megestrol?
