Would an AI-powered game search engine based on player reviews and videos be useful?

I've been thinking about something lately.

As AI makes game development more accessible, we're probably heading toward a future where thousands (or even hundreds of thousands) of indie games are released every year. Platforms like Steam and itch.io are only going to get more crowded, and I'm not sure tags and screenshots will be enough to help people discover games they actually want to play.

What if there was a game-focused RAG (or AI search engine) that indexed not just official descriptions, but also community knowledge?

Things like:

  • Steam reviews
  • itch.io pages and comments
  • Reddit discussions
  • YouTube/Twitch playthrough transcripts
  • Wikis
  • Patch notes
  • Modding communities

Instead of searching by tags, you could ask questions like:

  • "Games with exploration similar to Hollow Knight, but easier boss fights."
  • "Roguelikes with deep in-run build variety but little meta progression."
  • "Games where the movement feels as satisfying as Celeste."
  • "RPGs that don't require much grinding early on."

These kinds of qualities are rarely captured by tags, but players talk about them all the time in reviews, videos, and discussions.

It could also summarize community consensus, such as:

Pros

  • Great exploration
  • Excellent boss design
  • Responsive movement

Cons

  • Repetitive late game
  • Weak optimization
  • Story isn't very memorable

It feels like, in the future, people won't just search for genres—they'll search for experiences.

Has anyone built something like this already? Or do you think it would be useful?
