Do your parents occasionally bring up your past "regrets" or "mistakes"?
For example, my dad occasionally brings up the fact that I’d never eaten papaya before I was 14. Like "I remember you’d never eaten papaya before you were 14. The first time you tried it was in XX. You only realised how delicious it was once you’d tasted it, didn’t you? It’s your own fault for not giving it a go before."
It’s ridiculous that he’s held such a trivial matter for many years. Is this really a mistake worth regretting? So what if I hadn’t eaten it before?
I mentioned this to a friend before, and she said she thought it was lovely that parents could remember things from my childhood (She also said eating papaya helps with growth & development which is not my point). But I actually found it rather uncomfortable… Perhaps it is because our upbringings were different.
