In 30 to 40 years, the US-Israeli alliance will be a thing of the past

The Middle East

Let me preface this by saying that I am a leftist Jewish-American, up until I renounced my Israeli citizenship in 2022, I did have dual US & Israeli citizenship (dad is American, mom is Israeli, born in Israel but grew up here) and I lived in both countries, and before dropping out of NYU to study at Parsons, I was doing my major in sociology, so this is really just how I see the future of Israel's relationship with the USA based on my understanding of things.

The way I see it, for the last few decades, the American and European left have been inherently more and more anti-Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians and opposition to the almost Apartheid-like treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank, further exacerbated by the IDFs excessively brutal and indiscriminate retaliation against Gaza resulting in the deaths of 80k Palestinians area no bigger than Manhattan, coupled with Netanyahu's decision to interject themselves into domestic American politics by openly aligning himself with MAGA, Trump and Musk, as well openly appealing to the what Evangelicals, essentially using them as useful idiots to influence American politics in favor of Israeli interests.

What Netanyahu is doing is beneficial to Israel (or more specifically the interests of the Israeli right-wing) in the short term but a geopolitical nightmare in the long term.

The left are increasingly vocal anti-Israel and more classic liberals distancing themselves from their support of Israel is setting the Democratic Party towards a more anti-Israel or at least Israel-sceptic trajectory which will make any future Democrat President less likely or open to supporting or defending Israel in the future.

In turn, the new American right-wing (MAGA) won't exactly be there to support Israel in the future as I'm not blind to the fact the far-right which is basically the majority of the American right at this point is still inherently anti-Semitic, with their idolizing of Hitler and the Nazis, still holding on to anti-Semitic conspiracy theories (like the Great Replacement Theory, Holocaust denials and deep down blaming us Jews for societies problems) and the America First movement is inherently isolationist.

The few times MAGA actually criticizes and condemns Trump is criticizing Trump's decision to go to war with Iran for no other reason than Netanyahu wanted this pointless war. I've come across comments from Trump Supporters not wanting us to support Israel anymore than they want us to support Ukraine, Europe or any other ally.

All this coupled with right-wing influencers like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, etc, openly criticizing Israel, Evangelicals dying out and the new American right wing embracing isolationism, means that the new America First right wing will push the Republican Party towards a more isolationist trajectory, hence having no real interest in getting involved with Israel, the Middle East, Ukraine, etc.

Lastly, back in Israel, none of this is lost on us. Many Israelis know Trump is ridiculously unreliable and erratic, they see that younger generations of both the American left and right are turning away from Israel (albeit for different reaspns) and the Israeli government is aware of this fact, so much so, the Israeli government has even drafted plans on how to proceed with a future without America.

Netanyahu I feel has guaranteed that in the next 30 to 40 years, America will not be there to support Israel and the US-Israeli alliance by that time may very well be a thing of the past as the new American left and right will want to have nothing to do with Israel going forward.

Not sure if many people in the west realize this but there is also pretty strong pro-Russian sentiment in Israel.

Last I visited Israel in 2019, there were many shops and hotels with Russian flags and Cyrillic letters in Tel Aviv and Ashdod. In the 90s many Russians and Ukrainians emigrated to Israel under Law of Return by claiming some very distant Jewish ancestry as reason to move to Israel, there were 5000 Russian volunteers in the IDF last I checked and Israel not only refused to impose sanctions on Russia after Putin invaded Ukraine but Israel is allowing Russians to circumvent US and European sanctions.

Israel does have a history of switching alliances.

First it was the πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ British who were Israel's closest ally and security guarantor, then Israel turned to the πŸ‡«πŸ‡· French who sold us advanced weapons and helped us with our alleged nuclear weapons program and after Charles de Gaulle imposed an arms embargo on Israel in the 1960s, we turned to πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ America. I feel in the future, with US and Israel drifting further apart, Israel may turn to πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Russia or just go at it alone but this is just how I see things.
