My kid bypassed every Screen Time app, so I built one that holds — free beta
I'm a dad and a solo iOS developer, and I got sick of watching my kid walk straight through Screen Time — delete the app, change the clock, sign out of iCloud, done in thirty seconds. And half the "parental control" apps out there either have the same holes or want to harvest your kid's data to sell you some dashboard.
So I built my own. The whole point was to make it hold: it runs at the OS level and shuts down the usual escape routes, and if your kid does try to mess with it, you get pinged. There's also an offline check, so the classic "I turned my phone off" trick doesn't just make them vanish.
It's private in a way I actually care about — nothing gets collected off your kid's phone that isn't needed to enforce the rules, and everything syncs through your own iCloud. I don't have a server, so I genuinely can't see your family's stuff even if I wanted to.
You can set app and category limits, downtime, an always-allowed list, and your kid can ask for more time and you approve or deny it from your phone.
It's free right now while I'm testing, and honestly I'd love for you to try and break it — that's exactly what I need from this round. Happy to answer anything in the comments, including the "isn't this just spying?" question, because it's a fair one.
(Two iPhones needed, one parent + one child. iOS [your min version]+.)
I just realised I can’t post links here. Those interested please do shoot me a message and I’ll be glad to provide you with access to the application.
