I (early 20s F) feel trapped by my social anxiety.

Advice Needed

I’m a female in my early twenties, and my social anxiety has gotten much worse over the past year.
After something happened about a year ago, my anxiety became so overwhelming that I wore a mask every time I went out for months because I felt too uncomfortable being seen. Eventually I got tired of hiding and slowly stopped wearing it, which made me realize that I can overcome things—but for some reason I can’t seem to build that same courage in other areas of my life.

I have so many dreams: moving away, driving on my own, traveling with friends, meeting new people, and having my dream job. They all feel so far out of reach because my anxiety convinces me I can’t do them.
My parents were very strict growing up, although they’ve become more relaxed recently. The frustrating part is that now I finally have more freedom, but my social anxiety makes me feel trapped anyway.
I also went to an all-girls high school, so I barely had any opportunities to interact with guys. I know that isn’t the cause of my social anxiety, but it definitely didn’t help. I’ve never even had a talking stage, and the thought of putting myself out there now feels terrifying.

Recently, I even tried applying for a job, but my anxiety got the best of me. Instead of feeling excited, I started imagining the interview, having to talk to coworkers, making mistakes, and embarrassing myself. When I’m anxious, my mind feels foggy and I struggle to think clearly, so I worry people will think I’m incompetent or weird.

More than anything, I feel trapped by my own mind. I want so badly to live a normal life, be independent, and stop letting fear control every decision I make. Has anyone else felt like this? Did it ever get better, and what helped you?
