I feel trapped between guilt, freedom, and my own future. What would you do in my situation?
I'm 24F and currently finishing my master's degree in Germany. On paper, my life looks pretty good: I'm studying abroad, I have opportunities, and I'm close to graduating.
But internally, I feel exhausted.
I grew up loving my parents very much, and I know they sacrificed a lot for me. I'm genuinely grateful for everything they've done. The problem is that I constantly feel like I owe them. Every decision I make feels connected to not disappointing them.
Today my father sent a video to our family group saying that children are ungrateful and that parents sacrifice everything for them. Maybe he didn't mean it personally, maybe he did—I honestly don't know. But it hit me really hard.
I've spent my whole life trying to be a "good daughter." I studied hard, moved abroad, rarely caused problems, and always tried to make my parents proud.
Yet somehow I still ended up feeling like it's never enough.
Lately I've realized something that scares me: I don't even know how to feel free.
Even here, living alone in Germany, I constantly worry about the future, work, money, my career, and whether I'm doing enough.
I don't even know if I dislike working itself, or if I'm just burned out from feeling like my entire worth depends on achieving something.
Sometimes I just want someone to love me without feeling like I have to earn it.
I guess my question is:
If you were in my situation, where would you even start?
On becoming financially independent?
On creating distance from your family?
Or am I looking at this whole situation the wrong way?
I'm not looking for pity. I genuinely want outside perspectives because I feel stuck inside my own head.
