Change of placement in district

I'm considering leaving my current district for various reasons. However, I saw on my current district's website a posting for a special education inclusion teacher. Do you think I can ask to be moved from self-contained to this position? Likelihood this will happen in any of your experience? I currently teach self contained 6th to 8th grade students with autism and multiple disabilities. I have been in this position for 3 years. I'm in a teacher's union but am about to start year four so I do not have tenure. That happens day 1 of year 5. The district usually asks if you want to change positions but I don't think they did this year. I have a meeting Monday and would like to move into the inclusion position.
