How Is Deimos's ability an advantage?

I get that the enemy gets pinged every so often while Deimos gets concurrent pings, but I feel him being forced to use the pistol equalizes it back to a 50/50 gunfight. Is this the point? If so, wouldn't Deimos be quite useless unless you're incredible at gunfights? Even so, if you're playing ranked, the point is everyone is around the same skill level. I don't know, I feel like other anti-roamer agents like Dokkaebi and Snake are always just better options.
