I want to move to Canada as a refugee from the UK. Is this a good decision to make, or not?
I know it sounds selfish at best, considering that, unless I made myself stateless by relinquishing British citizenship, I currently enjoy more privileges than the average refugee will.
The problem is the UK is not at all interested in improving trans healthcare in or even improving its views on gender. I know Canada isn't perfect, what with its southern neighbour influencing them for the worse, but the main opponents in the US and Canada at least want some action on improving conditions for trans people, even if it's as part of a wider effort for reconciliation in everything short of total land back.
The only way I can transition in the UK is if I moved out, cut off my family for two years (for me, the hardest part) and gamble on which GP will prescribe me hormones if I didn't want to go private or DIY.
