[OoT] Expanding on OoT's Time Travel Mechanic

Discussion

Let's imagine for a moment that the OoT remake is more of re-imagining than a fresh coat of paint. If you think about the core elements of OoT's story, time travel is right up there. It's where we get our "two worlds" from in this version of hyrule.

And though this mechanic was obviously well deployed from a narrative stand-point and a big part of what made the original game (and story) so successful, I think that modern developers and modern technological capabilities could really expand upon this aspect.

Imagine for a moment a series of side-quests, or perhaps branching paths within more central quests, that take advantage of these two worlds, and allow the player to make decisions and take actions in the past that dramatically transform the world in the future, or strangely, vice-versa.

If I were developer seeking to boil down the elements that made the original so special, with a mind to reimagine and more fully deploy them, this one would definitely have my full attention.

What do you think about time travel (and its effects) as a core aspect of Ocarina of Time's DNA, so to speak? What are some ways you could see this being used in the remake? Of course the Shadow Temple and Spirit Temple utilize both time periods to attain key items. But what else could this mechanic do?

***This post is not meant to create expectations or hype for the game which ultimately lead to disappointment. We're in a rare moment where this game is an unknown for us. This post is for idle day-dreaming, for what-if!
