The reason Messi, Ronaldo, and Pele get so much hate is because they are very close to each other in terms of greatness.
- Messi fans discredit the accomplishments of Ronaldo and Pele because they don't want to admit that they have legitimate cases for being better.
- Ronaldo fans diminish Pele and Messi's achievements because they want to hype their favorite player up.
- Pele fans discredit Messi and Ronaldo because they want Pele to be more relevant.
- It's all a bit pathetic, really. It's kind of impressive how so many football fans are so quick to dismiss greatness, and how protective they get over the legacies of strangers.
