Building a parametric jewelry findings generator (clasps, hooks, jump rings) — is this useful or am I reinventing something?
I noticed the jewelry workflow in Blender has a gap: JewelCraft handles gems/prongs beautifully (and it's free), there are half a dozen chain generators out there — but nobody seems to cover findings: clasps, bails, earring hooks, jump rings. The mechanical bits.
So I started building one. First working piece: a fully parametric toggle clasp (ring OD, wire gauge, bar length with auto-check so the bar can't slip through, connector loop sizing). Geometry is watertight/manifold, aimed at both rendering and casting-ready export.
Screenshot is a quick prototype render — final version will be a Geometry Nodes add-on with presets. (Disclosure per rule 2: this early geometry was built/rendered in Python/trimesh, NOT Blender — flagging that upfront since the actual add-on port to Blender Geometry Nodes hasn't happened yet; that's exactly the step I'm validating interest for before investing the time.)
Questions for anyone who does jewelry work in Blender:
- Which findings do you actually need most? (lobster clasp is on my list but the spring gate is a beast)
- Would casting-ready STL export matter to you, or is this mostly a render-asset thing?
