Welp I went in for my physical fitness test yesterday, and they ended up calling 911 š
So uh, Iām a 27 year old guy, with a history of severe (but controlled) asthma and heart palpitations that went away 5 months ago when reducing a medication prescription.
Had an ekg and an echocardiogram done and they cleared by my doctor and was cleared in February.
Go in to take my fitness test, did push ups, sit-ups, was sweaty by fine. Had to throw in the towel on the step test, was disappointed but knew Iād get a retest opportunity.
Walked over to another room and sat down so they could take my stats regardless that I failed, ok great.
Iām still sweating profusely at this point, the nurse takes my blood pressure again and now itās apparently 20 points less than it was before I started the test 20 minutes ago.
She goes to get another nurse, who then goes to get the testing center doctor (the contractor who hosts the test is a medical center). He comes over and doesnāt like what he sees and apparently Iām loosing my color, and directs a nurse to call 911. Now the majority of the facility is on me, Iām still sweating profusely and gradually begin to lose my vision starting in the right hand corner of my right eye which progresses to both eyes over the course of 5-10 minutes.
A short while later for whatever reason five EMTās with two stretchers show up. (Which in hindsight I think means it mustāve been two ambulances).
They wanted me to go to the hospital but I wasnāt particularly keen on getting hit with a ambulance and ER bill if it could be avoided, so I was able to insist on waiting 25-30 minutes, (which as it turned out, I was fine save for a mild headache by that point.
The facilityās doctor best guess was a Vasovagal episode, the EMTās hypothesis was dehydration.
Due to the situation the facility was required to fill out an āinjury during testing documentā
Now I get to wait and see if CBP will allow me to demonstrate that it was just dehydration via a successful cardiac stress test, or if Iām now screwed on any future applications.
And here I thought my background check would be my biggest issue. All and all, turned out to be a shit show -100/10 would not recommend š¤¦š»āāļøš
