I have to say. It’s been a long time since I have seen Wuwa putting out a quest of this level. I say at this level, not because everyone is “wowing” or crying after the quest, but because the quest has a strong build up and is not just an arrangement of awesome or heavy emotional moments. Yes, there were emotions, but this was not the only thing good about the quest or the main thing that made it great.

First, this quest is one of the best in Wuwa in terms of world building. Even better than 3.0. They did not just throw us into this region, with no guidance. They took the time to present us the new world, while also sharing a bit of its core aspects with us, and this was done in a way that did not feel out of place too. We learned about Xuanfang history, a bit about its politics and Mengzhou’s politics, about the Xuan Watchers, the connection with Jinzhou etc. We learned about the people, about some factions, about some important upcoming characters. Once again, all that while staying connected with the main reason why we ended up in Mengzhou in the first place. It’s magnificent.

Second, this is one of the few quests (the other one I can think of is probably 2.7), where Rover DOES NOT get most of the screen time, and it’s GREAT. The story was not just about Rover for a very long time. Yangyang got more screen time since obviously this was her story. We learn about Liangyu and other secondary characters. This adds depts to the game where it’s not just about the MC. Obviously, it’s important to reserve enough for Rover (at the end of the day, this is his journey), but every story cannot be only or primarily about him/her. That’s why One Punch Man manga managed to survive till this day (despite Saitama being overpowered, the manga still reserved time for the other characters). That’s also why despite Solo Leveling receiving lots of praise, it still lacks a lot as a manhwa.

Third, YangYang changes. I was skeptical about how they would show us how she gets her powers. I was afraid that they would have just given us some generic and quick moments where she managed to reawaken. They did not just make her disappear to go through a hidden training arc, and just re-appeared stronger. NO. They guided us through this process. We lived every moment that led to this transformation so we can know it’s not just “Abracadabra! Here is your new power”, but it was a new discovery too. The fact that they integrate singing into the quest is incredible, knowing that Yangyang actually comes from a music family.

Of course! Of course, I also think this quest could have improved in terms of pacing. And I understand why someone who is not used to it might feel lost. But in the end, this does not remove any of its values. We need to also understand that good stories are not always about huge lore drops or “emotional damage”.

Overall, this main quest sets the proper base for what will come in 3.6 and 3.7, just like 3.0 sets the base for the phenomenal stories from 3.1 to 3.2. I can’t wait.
