Overtime Legality

Located in Ontario. My partner works for a meat supplier, super long hours, like 10-12 hours days, 6 days a week. His overtime is paid in cash, at regular hourly rate, not time and a half.

Hes hesitate to report this to the labour board, since he works with a lot of people not from Canada who are okay with the hours and the pay, and he doesn’t want to risk them losing a job. But from what I’ve researched, this is illegal, and I think it should be reported.

The employer apparently tried justifying it by saying it was saving him money from taxes, which doesn’t sit right either. That sounds like fraud my partner could get in trouble for, and after doing some math, he’s definitely still making way less in overtime than he should, even after factoring in taxes.

Any advice?
