2nd Labral Tear, Same Shoulder

Labrum Tear

Tore my labrum skiing about 10 years ago, it dislocated, was able to get it back in myself. Started a new job, waited 5 years to have a bankart repair. Felt great, regained stability and confidence, full range of motion without concern.

Currently 5 years out from that repair. About 6 months ago, I started noticing it start to slightly subluxate (I think that’s the word). Then a month ago, fell running down the stairs, grabbed the handrail, pulled my shoulder backwards (very similar to the way it happened skiing) and it hurt, but not terrible. Got an MRI, awaiting results, but it feels exactly how it felt prior to. Subluxing numerous times a week doing routine things, clicking when I raise it, sharp pain in certain movements, weakness, no confidence reaching behind me.

While I’m staying positive, I’m fairly confident about the answer. Is the repaired part of the labrum weaker after surgery? I had the impression it would be just as strong as it was prior to.

Has anyone here had a successful 2nd repair? I have a kid on the way, short time frame to get this done if it is torn where I can be relatively operational by the time the baby gets here.

If you did have a 2nd repair, did you use the same surgeon?

I think I’m mainly looking for reassurance it’s possible to fully recover from a 2nd repair because I desperately don’t want to do it again, but will if it means there’s strong confidence for this fixing things going forward.
