Failed the PMP, then built an AI coach that runs on my wrong answers instead of a generic study plan. Here's the whole setup.

PMP Exam

Failed my first attempt. Not on knowledge — I burned my clock re-reading questions and left ~30 blank. Passed the retake at 80.6% once I stopped studying content and started studying my own mistakes.

I built a coaching setup with Claude along the way, and enough people here have asked that I'm just posting the entire thing. Full disclosure up front: I built and refined all of this with Claude. I'm not an AI whisperer — I just kept telling it what wasn't working for me until it did.

Here's why it's different from every "paste this magic study prompt" thing floating around: it doesn't hand you a generic plan. It interviews you first — how you actually learn, how you want to be talked to — then it runs on the questions you get wrong. For every miss, it figures out why you missed it and buckets it:

  • Knowledge gap — you didn't know it
  • Misread — you blew past a first / last / best / except
  • PMI-ism — you picked the real-world answer instead of the PMI answer
  • Pacing — you rushed or looped (my personal nemesis)

Then it hunts for the 2–3 buckets bleeding you the most points. Because "study harder" is useless. "You've missed 6 in a row to misread qualifiers — that's your problem, not risk management" is not.

Two versions in the comments:

  • Option A — a paste-in prompt (easy mode)
  • Option B — a Project setup (the good one; your progress lives in a doc you own instead of the model's memory)

Pick whichever fits how you work. The one non-negotiable is the Gap Log — that doc is the actual engine. The prompt's just the mechanic.

Good luck and if you have any questions, slide into my DMs or post a comment below. I'll do my best to help each of you as individuals.
